MY NEW BIRD

I know taxidermy isn't for everyone, but love it ....
I really got an appreciation for taxidermy after visiting here
years ago ....
and lately the work of Polly Morgan (who happens to live in this space with Mat Collishaw)
and Melbourne girl Julia deVille has reignited my interest .....

so this is my first taxidermy purchase ....
a pigeon (not sure of his breed) but he is very beautiful ....
all of the birds from the taxidermist I bought it from have either died of natural causes or had unpreventable deaths .....

I really like how he peeks his head around the corner into the living room .....

..... looks like he's hiding from the cat in the picture !!!

Soooo .... do you like him or (like a recent dinner guest) are you a little creeped out by taxidermy ?

even as a biologist i must say that a dead bird looking around the corner is quite creepy.

For me it's a beautiful work... but it's also horrible to have a dead animal in my house !!!!!

Oh, I just read about her in the Dutch Vogue, such a nice interview and had to laugh how she storage those dead animals in her house.

*LOVE* I'm definitely not a taxidermy enthusiast, but I have to admit this is awesome! love the placement.

i love taxidermy... so i'm not quite sure why this one freaks me out so much... the colours are beautiful & he's definitely a handsome little beast... but maybe i'm afraid he'd spring to life and dive bomb me like the rest of his friends do on a regular basis (dive bomb me that is, not suddenly spring to life!) ;)

Love this pigeon

Taxidermy has been a little overdone here lately by art students and I am hoping I don't see any at all on my visits to the degree shows this summer. Especially the mix and match taxidermy where they collage/graft bits from one to another.
My father used to do it so I am not freaked out and I can see that you would want to try to preserve the beauty of a creature rather than letting it fad away.

That should be Fade X

A fab post, I just had to tweet about it & link to your blog.

I love your bird – such perfect placement too. He definitely needs a name though, a full one including middle and surname.

Deyrolle is amazing, did you hear it had a massive fire a few years ago?

Also, another one for taxidermy is the Natural History Museum in Tring. I spent HOURS here. It was fascinating to look at the evolution of species, even dogs! You can look at the galleries online here:

It depends (can get totally freaked out by possums and weasels), but I just love this pigeon, the pose and beauty of this bird is striking. What a fantastic purchase.

It's not for everyone, but I love Taxidermy and the coloring on your new bird is gorgeous.

I'm stuck! It is a beautiful bird, but I think that taxidermy is just not for me!
